It defines what the music recorded under the engagement may be used for, ranging from the music that will appear over the titles of every episode of a long-running series or serial to incidental sound-track music for a one-off documentary that will be heard only once.

It defines various packages of performers’ rights that the producer can acquire, according to how he/she foresees the programme’s primary use, within the basic fee. Payment of the basic fee also gives the producer the musician’s consent to the full range of

secondary uses, subject to payments as and when such uses take place in the form of royalties.

The agreement specifies that musicians may only be engaged under standard contracts which incorporate the terms of the agreement. These contracts are obtainable from the MU at 44 (0)207-582-5566, or from the Producers’ Industrial Relations Service (PIRS).
