How Alias Works
B/C 02742535 date:  1989- 90?
"In the kitchen at the Alias R&D training facility"
meet the experts who use Alias software:

  • Jan Carlssen - Concept Engineer for Volvo
  • Jay Riddell -Animation Supervisor at Lucasfilms' ILM
  • Judy Riley - Manager of design, Timex
  • Brooks Marget - Leader of packaging design at Risdon Corp

These and others demonstrate how they use Alias to model and design 3-D products,
Last on the tape : Jay Riddell from ILM explains how the 3-D product they are
designing is a Concept, which is first visualised in storyboard form.
Taking the example of the film
'The Abyss', and the Pseudopod character
which ILM created, Riddell shows how they modelled and animated the character,
using Bsplines, keyframing, Alias parameter curves,
morphing the pseudopod's head to the actors head (digitized),
using a cubic environment map of the setting for the pseudopod
based on the film set, showing how the pseudopod model and
cubic map were composited into the film sequence,
An extract from 'The Abyss' showing the sequence.
