Managing
Media Projects - Managing
the People : Outline Guide (Insurance) 1
If you are working in-house on a BBC or ITV production, you will only need
to be concerned with insurance for exceptional risks: everything else will
be covered by the BBC's or ITV Company's blanket policies. If in doubt, get
internal advice.
If you are making an independent production, and it has been
commissioned by a broadcaster, it is likely that you will be able to take
out all the production insurances you need through the blanket schemes that
broadcasters make available to the independent production companies from which
they commission programmes. The same point about exceptional risks made in
the previous paragraph still applies, of course.
If circumstances occur in which you need to arrange customary production insurances
yourself, you may find the following brief guide helpful
You should note, though, that it is only a brief guide, no
more. As with all insurance, there is a great deal of detail, both in the
broadcasters' blanket schemes and in the policies that you may need to take
out yourself, whether for customary production insurances or for exceptional
risks, and all of them are subject to exclusions, conditions and excess payments
that you may have to meet yourself before any claim is met by insurers. This
guide is not a substitute for proper study of that detail at the time that
your production is insured.
