Managing Media Projects - Managing the People : Industry Agreements (Actors, In-House BBC, 5)

dramatised readings, dubbing, post-synchronisation and, in the case of chorus singers, overdubbing), closed-circuit exercises, special provisions for puppeteers, payment for the artist’s provision of his/her own evening dress, payments to directors, stage managers etc involved in theatre excerpts and relays of opera and ballet, contributions to the Equity Pension Scheme and credits.

For all these types of engagement and the various activities associated with them, the agreement specifies minimum payments. In practice, most artists other than Supporting Artists, Walk-ons, Chorus Singers and Group Dancers and Skaters are able, usually through their agents, to negotiate fees above these minima.

The agreement also deals with the acquisition of the performers’ rights of actors and other performers engaged under it, and defines the uses licensed to the BBC on payment of the basic fees, and the further uses that may be licensed on payment of further fees. These aspects of this agreement are summarised in the Managing the Idea pages of this producer’s toolkit.

The BBC deals with Equity through the Contributor and Talent Rights area of Finance, Property and Business Affairs. The full text of the agreement is held by that department, and by the Business Affairs teams in the genre programme groups and in the Nations/Regions.
