Health and Safety

Overview

Health and Safety regulations are required by law to be implemented in every work place so that your employer can fulfil his or her duty to ensure your health, safety and welfare as far as possible.

All companies must assign a Health and Safety Officer and it is an employer's duty to ensure that your workplace is safe and without health risks. They must ensure that safe systems of work are set up and adhered to, that articles are used, stored and moved safely, that there are satisfactory welfare facilities and to give you any instruction, supervision, training or information required to ensure your health and safety.

It is really important for new media producers to never ignore safety. Try and use it to improve the business and to improve your programme and improve your creativity. Don't see it as a restraint. If you are in any doubt it's important that you refer to other people who may have the answers or may have a better understanding of certain regulations and the certain requirements those regulations may have. Proactive Management of safety is far better than having to deal with the consequences of an accident at work.
