There are statutory and non-statutory regulations governing the
media, the most recently appointed regulatory body being the Office
of Communications (OFCOM), established through the
Office
Of Communications Act 2002. They will take over the
functions currently held by the Broadcasting
Standards Commission, the Director General of Telecommunications,
the Independent
Television Commission, the Radio
Authority and the Secretary of State.
The Independent Television Commission (ITC) licences and regulates
UK commercial television services (except S4C in Wales) and they
set and maintain programme standards, all advertising and technical
quality. For more information about the ITC visit their website.
