Finding Work

Finding Freelance Work

Many companies employ freelance staff, including large organisations such as BBC/BBCi. Some companies will calculate your tax for you and others will require you to sort out your own finances and pay a gross fee.

Finding Regular Work

As a freelancer you may find yourself working for clients in the corporate sector, the independent sector or for broadcasters. Good communication skills are necessary in order to build up good relationships with clients and commissioning editors, and strong creative talent, good practical skills and personality are key issues.

Initially and often throughout your freelance career, you will need to work hard at generating income, but once you have successfully completed your first few projects you will begin to build up a track record and a reputation.

If you work in the independent or freelance sector it is vital to have a website so that people can easily find out about you, and an e-mail address so it is easy to get in touch with you. If you do not have a website in today's market you are not seen to exist.
