Once a deal has been negotiated and a commission
accepted, a contract must be signed. Contracts are necessary to
protect both parties and take many forms. Large companies tend to
have standard contracts, but it is common for smaller companies
and independents to tailor these to specific commissions. Once a
contract has been signed it is legally binding. The contract will
specify the project brief, the timescale, payment information and
delivery requirements. However, in the industry turnover can be
so rapid that there may not be sufficient time prior to producing
a piece of work to sign a contract, but this generally happens when
a long term relationship has been established with a commissioner
so there is strong trust on both sides.
