For most projects it will be necessary or helpful
to undertake at least some basic research. In this section we
identify
the different methods of research that can be employed and
what techniques are most widely used. There is also information
about which methods produce the most effective results in
particular situations and how to judge the reliability of
your source.
Research takes time, manpower and money and it
may not always be possible to spend as much time as you
would like researching
a particular item or area. Information exploring constraints
when researching is given in this section.
Once you have researched
a particular area it is essential that this information is
not disregarded. By applying your
findings
to your project at an early stage it is possible to determine
whether it is moving in the right direction and whether what
you theorised is actually substantiated. In this section
we look at the importance of applying research and acting on
your
findings.
