Presenting and Gathering Feedback

Delivery

Once a project has been completed it will be presented or delivered to a client as per the agreed sign off stages and delivery dates. The schedule for this will be dependent on the relationship between the client and production team and the medium in which you are working.

Generally the client will have been involved from the outset and they will have been in agreement with all decisions along the way. They should at this stage have a fairly good idea of either what the finished product will look like or what it will comprise.

For a really good client it shouldn't be too much of a surprise really because you've been working with them, but it's not always the case and there's not many ideal clients out there. Grant Campbell

Presentation

  • Presentation is important when delivering a project face to face with your client
  • For some the delivery may be more of an occasion than for others
  • It is common at the delivery stage to give an overview of the project, how the end result has been achieved and justification for actions taken
  • In television, a master tape of the programmes or pilot will be presented to the client or commissioning editor on an agreed date
  • By the time the client receives a master tape it is likely that they will have seen an off-line edit of the programme and will have contributed throughout the process to the style and content
  • A soft launch is a posting of a site to a live server and this may be done in order to test a site without a pressured launch and advertising campaign
This is the funny thing about new media, because unlike traditional media like radio or television, you post an email to the client and say this is the site, it's now live and there's the link and it's as simple as that. Soft launches are kind of better than big launches anyway because you're bound to find faults in something as big as a site at a latter stage.Dominique Lee

With graphic design, it is particularly important to give the client time to reflect and absorb the finished product on completion so they can get used to the look and feel of a design. If a company has undergone a re-branding then although they know what to expect they need to spend time getting used to their new image.

There is generally no presentation or handover in magazine publishing. The magazine will have been put together through a collaborative team process and approved by the editor and publisher before being sent to print. Once printing has taken place the magazines will be distributed to specified outlets for a specified release date.

The handover usually represents the conclusion of the project. Final sign off and closure of the project will follow once the client is happy that the company have successfully carried out their obligations as specified in the original agreement and that the work has been completed satisfactorily.
