Answers

1.How do I digitise to Orb in Off-line Media100?

Ans:  Open the Project, Program and Bin as usual.  Insert the Orb disk.  Put the EDIT SUITE window into DIGITISE mode.  Select PROJECT SETTINGS from the EDIT menu.  In the following menu select MEDIA DESTINATIONS and arm the Orb track (Click under Video, Audio1, Audio2 and Graphics along the Orb track so green balls appear).  In the MEDIA SETTINGS window change the IMAGE setting for Video, Effects and Graphics to HDR, and the QUALITY settings to DRAFT: 10kb.  In the EDIT SUITE window ensure you have numbered the REEL (otherwise you will not be able to digitise), and then check the tape deck is on REMOTE.  Click on the PLAY icon, and then click on START to start digitising, and STOP to stop digitising.

2. How do I save screenshots to disk?

Ans: Select the frame you want by placing the CTI (Current Time Indicator) on the frame in the program window. Choose EXPORT from the FILE menu. Select FULL FRAME from the resulting dialogue box, then click OPTIONS and select a compression system (I recommend PHOTO JPG), Give your exported frame a name (include .jpg at the end of it) and save the frame to the hard disk. Move that frame to a floppy disk and there you go - just be aware these pictures will work best on a MAC computer. Try to gain access to one, at least to convert the file into a PC type file if you need it. GRAPHIC CONVERTER is a good MAC program for that.

3. How can I re-batch digitise a video shot?

ANS: Select the shot in the timeline (you should see a black highlighting line at the top of the clip icon). Choose BATCH DIGITISE SELECTED from the CLIP menu. If Media100 is convinced that the clip in question is already digitised, it may prevent you from digitising it again. To get around this, try choosing a higher quality setting in the MEDIA SETTINGS option box, or alternatively re-import your edl, highlight the necessary shot (you can identify it by the shot number), digitise it and then place it into the master prgram.

4. How can I add a film effect to my program?

ANS: To be honest, the time needed to render a `film effect´ is normally too long to even bother with - you´re better off adding a film effect in the Beta Online Suite. Adding black bars, though, is less of a problem. You can create black rectangles in the title tool and lay them across the entire graphics track, without needed to render anything. Any titles on the graphics track will need to be moved down to the video track first, of course.

5. Why do my pictures turn momentarily black and white when playing a timeline that includes graphics on the graphics track?

ANS: Are the titles close together? Render them!

6. I have too many audio tracks at the end of my on-line, but I need them all!  How can I take more than two audio tracks into my PPS?

ANS: If you need more than two tracks for you PPS, you must master your program more than once: Firstly with A1 and A2 only, and all the other audio channels muted, then again with A3 and A4 only, and all the other audio channels muted, then with A5...

All these audio tracks can then be played into P.P.S. one at a time, in sync on different audio tracks.

If in doubt the tone that Media 100 writes onto the tape before each version, can be used as a sync point, to ensure they are all lined up correctly.
