What is Editbox?
Quantel's Editbox is another example of an on-line, non-linear editing system.  Mainly used as an effects package it allows for chromakeying, tracking, compositing and a range of motion and colour effects.  Combined with the abilities of Quantel's Paintbox it is also possible to create more complex and imaginative title sequences and graphics.

Background

Established in 1973, Quantel has explored the potential of digital technology, often challenging the way television producers work.  Two of their most innovative projects include development of Editbox and Paintbox.

Paintbox was launched in 1982, and twenty years on remains the graphics design tool of choice for broadcasters world-wide.  Quantel also touched the world of non-linear on-line editing with the arrival of Editbox in 1994.  Since then it has established itself as an industry standard.

Notes

The Editbox edit suite is available for booking from the Production Office (P147).
