Ans: Make sure you are in CHASE SLAVE mode, and not MASTER mode. Also, check that the PPS 100 unit in the rack is switched on.

3. Why does sound I record in play back at the wrong pitch?

ANS: DATs and miniDisk must be set to 44.1 khz when recording sound on to them. Sound recorded at 48 or 32 khz will play back at the wrong pitch when transfered to Soundscape.

4. After I record my dubbed sound back to video, why is the sound out of sync with the pictures?

ANS: The likelyhood is you are using DVC PRO videotapes. Because of the nature of the format, it takes 5 frames for audio / video information to be processed and recorded onto the tape. Therefore, when laying audio back onto the tape from Soundscape, it is necessary to OFFSET the timeline by 5 frames. Do this by selecting TIMELINE OFFSET in Soundscape and minus 5 frames from the timecode displayed.

5. Why should I spend time making a DAT backup when my programme is stored on the computerīs hard disk?

ANS: There is only a finite amount of space on the hard disk because itīs available for everyone to use. Backing up to DAT not only means your work is safe from `deleting handsī, but also you have the option to use any of the Soundscape machines, and not just the one you were using before.
